8. What is “Z” time?
|
“Z” or Zulu time refers to the time at 0 degrees longitude, in Greenwich, England – the Prime Meridian. Other names used to identify the Z time zone are Greenwich Mean Time (GMT); Greenwich Civil Time (GCT); and, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). All of those terms refer to the same time zone. EX: You are located in the Eastern time zone of the U.S. This time zone is 5 hours earlier than Z time. Add 5 hours to the local time and your result will be the correct Z time. 13:00 + 5:00 = 18:00Z. Using “Z” time provides a standard time reference regardless of where you are located on the globe.
